If your children are too young to have an opinion, give them choices and see where their imagination will take them. Purchase picture books from your decided destination and read them to your little ones before bedtime and watch their excitement grow!
While on your trip, let the older kids lead an excursion. They may have discovered some great local activities that are not in your guide books. For example, they could have found a local restaurant because of a picture that is trending in that location on Instagram.
Don’t forget to take breaks though. Smaller legs have to take more steps, and although walking tours may hold kids' attention more than a driving tour, it will take more of a toll on their energy. This option is great because they can get up close to touch and taste sights, attractions and the local cuisine around them. A good tip with kids is to reward adventurous eating with ice cream. Ice cream is a staple in many destinations especially across Europe where you can find unique flavors not generally seen around the U.S., such as Red Bull found in Slovakia or Nutella found in Italy.
Remember not to forget your adult time. Many hotels, resorts and cruise lines have children’s programs that last into the evening so parents have time for themselves to relax and unwind. The kids will be engaged with other children around their age group and can even eat their evening meal while you dance the night away.
